Based GM's Kappa platform, the Beira features new front and rear body sections made from lightweight composites instead of steel. This not only enabled the creation of a distinctive nose section and pronounced fastback rear, but it also cut down on weight.
Honda inaugurated its new Advanced Design Studio in Los Angeles last week, coinciding with the LA auto show's first press day. It's the third design studio for the Japanese manufacturer in the region and is poised to lead the development of Honda's advanced automobile design activity. Saab Automobile and BMW AG announced an agreement Wednesday that will supply engines for Saab's next-generation 9-3. Under the agreement, BMW will provide Saab with four-cylinder 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engines starting in 2012. The engines will be adapted to meet Saab's specific requirements.
